Courtroom Advocacy
CCCVS advocates are consistently in Courtrooms 903 and 906 in the Criminal Justice
Center (CJC). While in Courtrooms 903 and 906, our advocates act as a liaison with the
District Attorney and help explain the court proceedings to the victim.
Advocates are also available to accompany the victim or witness through the
Criminal Justice System. They are available to attend trials with the victim or
witness, and answering questions about court and police procedures.
Advocates can also assist victims with tracking their case, protection orders,
filing affidavits, and/or filing claim restitution. We can help the victim
contact the right people in the DA’s office, Police Dept, and Probation and
Parole offices.

Victims Compensation Assistance Program
(VCAP)

The Pennsylvania Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund provides compensation for a variety of expenses that victims of crime may accrue, including, but not limited to, the following:
· Medical Expenses
· Loss of wages
· Funeral Expenses
· Loss of Cash (Benefactors of Social Security or Disability)
(each as they relate to the crime)
The crime must be reported to the proper authorities within 72 hours. There is a two-year time limit from the date of the incident in which to apply for compensation under most circumstances.
Our advocates would be happy to walk you through the process. We can help you determine whether you might be eligible and complete the application process from beginning to end with you.
CCCVS in the Community
As a service to the community, CCCVS
offers crisis support and counseling on a short-term basis. We also help victims receive the
psychological support they need through referrals to appropriate agencies and
counselors (even for those who are not insured).
CCCVS advocates are also available for presentations on crime-prevention, victims' rights, court proceedings, and general services we can provide. Presentations can be done in English, Spanish, or Mandarin. Contact Sherry Hunter (shunter@cccvs.org) to make a request for an advocate to share with your organization or school.
As a comprehensive victim services agency, CCCVS functions under the following limitations:
- CCCVS cannot guarantee conviction in the Criminal Justice System
- CCCVS cannot guarantee approval of VCAP claims
- CCCVS advocates do not provide legal representation or consultation to clients
- Cases for domestic violence, sexual assault, homicide, and victims of juvenile offenders will be taken on a case-by-case basis, but will often be referred to specialized agencies
